Summary
Join us for an engaging tour of the historic Harvey Quarry site and the scenic Kona Hills Campground. We’ll begin at the base of the quarry, where you’ll observe approximately six distinct rock formations. From there, we’ll ascend the formation to explore a striking area of exposed stromatolite fossils. The tour continues through the campground to the back rock outcropping, offering sweeping views of Marquette and eastward toward Harvey. We’ll conclude at the front rock outcropping, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking 270-degree views of Lake Superior.
8AM: Meet and park at the Back Rock Outcropping
(Guests will drive straight up to this point and park on the side of the gravel road)
What folks should bring
- Hiking shoes (slick rock faces require good shoes!)
- Water bottle (there is water onsite guests can fill up at the Welcome Area on their way to the Back Rock if need be)
- Trekking poles
- Rain Jacket
