Trail systems don’t just happen. They often evolve from the labor of invisible builders digging for fun, into networks, communities and economies. But what happens when the lands beneath the trails aren’t controlled by the trail organizations? And whose job is it to fund and maintain these trails? This is a look at the Marquette, Michigan region, home to thriving trail systems, but also in need of housing and jobs that can threaten trail sustainability.
